Child Seats on Any Airport Transfer

Child seats are free in every MPV and £10 in an estate. Saloons and executive cars cannot carry one at all — so if a child is travelling, book an MPV or an estate. Two or more seats need an MPV. Your own seat is welcome at no charge.

Most transfer companies say child seats are free and leave you to discover the conditions at the kerb. Here are ours, in full, before you book. We cover every London airport — Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, London City and Southend — plus the UK cruise ports, with the seat fitted before your driver collects you. **Which vehicles can take a child seat** Child seats are **free in every MPV**, and an MPV is what we recommend for anyone travelling with children in any case — there is room for the seat, the pram and the luggage without anything going on a lap. An **estate** can take one seat for a **£10 supplement**. Estates do not carry seats permanently, so one has to be fitted specially for your journey, which is what the supplement covers. An estate seats three passengers. **Saloons and executive cars cannot take a child seat at all.** This is the thing worth knowing before you book: if you choose the cheapest car and a child is travelling, the vehicle that turns up will not be able to carry them legally. Tell us a child is coming and we will only offer you vehicles that can actually take the seat. If you need **two or more seats, you need an MPV** — an estate can take one. You are also welcome to bring your own seat at no charge, and the driver will help fit it. We carry three types, and the driver fits the right one before collecting you: **Infant carrier** — 0 to 13 kg, birth to around 15 months, rear-facing. **Child seat** — 9 to 18 kg, roughly 9 months to 4 years, forward-facing with a 5-point harness. **High-back booster** — 15 to 36 kg, roughly 4 to 12 years. By law a child must use a suitable seat until they are 12 years old or 135 cm tall, whichever comes first. **Booking** Tell us the age and weight of each child and we will bring the right seat and put you in a vehicle that can carry it. If you are unsure which seat applies, give us the ages and we will work it out — it is a two-minute conversation and it is what we are here for.

Frequently Asked questions

Everything you need to know about our London transfer service.

QAre child seats free?

In an MPV, yes — infant carriers, child seats and boosters are all included at no charge, and an MPV is what we recommend for families anyway. An estate can take one seat for a £10 supplement, because estates do not carry seats permanently and one has to be fitted for your journey. Saloons and executive cars cannot take a child seat at all.

QCan I have a baby seat in a saloon car?

No. Saloons and executive cars in our fleet cannot carry a child seat. If you tell us a child is travelling we will not offer you those vehicles, so you are not left at the airport with a car your child cannot legally travel in. Choose an MPV, or an estate if you need a single seat.

QWhat if I need two child seats?

You need an MPV. An estate can take one seat only. Two or more seats — for example an infant carrier and a booster for an older sibling — need the space of an MPV, where both are included at no extra charge.

QWhat types of child seat do you have?

Three. An infant carrier for 0 to 13 kg (birth to around 15 months, rear-facing); a child seat for 9 to 18 kg (roughly 9 months to 4 years, forward-facing with a 5-point harness); and a high-back booster for 15 to 36 kg (roughly 4 to 12 years). Tell us your child’s age and weight when booking and we will bring the right one.

QWill the seat already be fitted when the driver arrives?

Yes. The seat is fitted before your driver comes to collect you, so you can load the luggage and buckle in without standing in a car park working it out. If you would rather fit it yourself, or you have brought your own, the driver will help.

QCan I bring my own child seat instead?

Yes, at no charge, in any vehicle that can take one. Some parents prefer a seat their child is used to, or need one for the flight anyway. The driver will help fit it. Note that a saloon still cannot take a seat, even your own.

QHow long is a child legally required to use a seat?

Until they are 12 years old or 135 cm tall, whichever comes first. After that they use an adult seat belt. If you are unsure which seat your child needs, tell us their age and weight and we will advise.

QWhich airports and ports does this cover?

All the London airports — Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, London City and Southend — and the UK cruise ports including Southampton, Dover, Portsmouth, Harwich and Tilbury. Child seats work the same way on every route.

QHow can I be sure the child seat will actually be in the car?

Tell us at the time of booking rather than in a message afterwards, and the requirement is recorded against the booking itself and passed to the driver with the job. The seat is fitted before you are collected. If a child is on the booking we will not offer you a saloon or executive car, because those cannot take a seat at all. If you want certainty on the day, message or call us that morning and we will confirm it with the driver directly — we would much rather answer that than have you find out at the kerb.

QDo you have rear-facing seats for a newborn?

Yes. Our infant carrier is rear-facing and covers 0 to 13 kg, from birth to around 15 months. It is free in any MPV or larger vehicle. If your baby is very young, say so when booking and we will make sure the carrier goes on the job rather than a forward-facing seat.

QMy baby is 10 months but weighs 13 kg. Which seat is right?

Weight decides, not age. The rear-facing infant carrier covers 0 to 13 kg, and the forward-facing child seat starts at 9 kg and runs to 18 kg — so at 13 kg your child is at the top of one and already inside the other. Tell us the weight as well as the age when you book and we will bring the one that fits, rather than assuming from the birthday.

QCan I have two child seats in one vehicle?

Yes, in an MPV, where both are free. An estate can take one seat only, for a £10 supplement. So an infant carrier for the baby plus a booster for an older sibling means an MPV — and the MPV is the sensible choice anyway once you add the pram and the cases.

QDoes the MPV 8 take 8 passengers and 8 suitcases?

No — 8 passengers and 7 checked suitcases, plus 7 pieces of hand luggage. On every one of our MPVs the checked-bag limit is one below the seat count: the MPV 6 takes 6 people and 5 cases, the MPV 7 takes 7 people and 6 cases, the MPV 8 takes 8 people and 7 cases. If you need eight seats and eight cases, you need a 12-seater minibus, which takes 10.

QDo a pushchair and a baby changing bag count as luggage?

They count as hand luggage rather than checked bags. A folded buggy and a baby backpack are both treated as hand luggage, so they come out of your cabin-bag allowance, not your suitcase allowance. Tell us how many you are bringing when you book and we will make sure the vehicle fits them.

QI have more suitcases than passengers. Which vehicle do I need?

Size the vehicle on whichever number is higher, the people or the bags. Four passengers with eight large suitcases do not need an 8-seater MPV — that only takes 7 cases — they need a 12-seater minibus, which takes 10. It is a common and expensive mistake to book on headcount alone.

QWhat counts as a checked bag and what counts as hand luggage?

A checked bag is a medium or large suitcase — the kind that goes in the hold. Hand luggage is a cabin bag, a rucksack, a laptop bag, a folded buggy or a changing bag. If something is unusually large or an odd shape, tell us what it is rather than guessing which category it falls into.

QWhat are the capacities of each vehicle?

Saloon: 3 passengers, 2 checked bags, 2 hand. Estate: 3, 3 and 3. MPV 4: 4, 4 and 4. MPV 6: 6, 5 and 5. MPV 7: 7, 6 and 6. MPV 8: 8, 7 and 7. Minibus 12: 12, 10 and 10. Minibus 15: 15, 15 and 15. Note that saloons and executive cars cannot carry a child seat at all.

QI am coming off a cruise and do not know my final luggage count yet.

Book for the maximum you might have. The price is per vehicle, so a larger vehicle with room to spare costs the same whether it is full or not, and it is far cheaper than discovering at the kerb that the bags do not fit. Tell us the likely range when booking and we will advise.

QCan you carry skis, surfboards, golf clubs or a musical instrument?

Yes — skis and surfboards can be added to an MPV or larger when you book, at no extra charge. For golf clubs, instruments or anything else long or fragile, tell us the dimensions when booking rather than at the kerb, so we send a vehicle that genuinely takes it.
